THE PUNK OF THE RINGS ALEC DOHERTY

Memories of his own youth and that of his friends in the north of England in the nineties inspire Alec Doherty’s jewellery. The nostalgic treasure trove of Doherty’s narratives includes dancing the night away in the post-Thatcher era, when many believed things would change for the better again, friends who were sent to jail, and traumatic bullying for looking or behaving differently. This heady and emotional mix of memories has been used to create, amongst other things, a range of featuring small faces with a variety of facial expressions which were pressed into a soft mass and then cast in silver and old gold. The quirky jewellery may be reminiscent of vending machine trinkets,
but they are made of highquality materials and promoted by Doherty with a campaign that is more concerned with
maximum diversity than old-fashioned prettiness. These unique pieces are also available from Paul Smith stores.
