Leuba’s series “Cocktail” explores contemporary representations of the African female body, while at the same time the lush photographs brim with colourful boldness and insouciance that seem to speak to an Africa that is increasingly young and urban.

Namsa Leuba is a Swiss-Guinean photographer and art director. Leuba studied photography at ÉCAL, University of Art and Design in Lausanne, Switzerland, and obtained a master’s degree in art direction at ÉCAL. Through use of elaborate staging, Leuba avoids the rawness typical of documentary photography. Instead, she said her positive, glamorous approach allows eclectic stories to shine, including histories of homelessness and conflict, along with journeys of acceptance from families and culture.
